What Are Acrobat Ants?

Acrobat ants are a nuisance species of ant that lives throughout the Dallas, Texas area. Most of this species range in color from light yellowish-brown to black, but some are multi-colored. Their most distinctive characteristic is not physical, however, but behavioral. Acrobat ants have the unique ability to hold their heart-shaped abdomens up over the rest of their bodies. This acrobatic display occurs when the individual or nest is disturbed. These ants are known for is emitting a foul-smelling odor when threatened.

Are acrobat ants dangerous?

Even though they can bite people, acrobat ants are not considered a significant threat. They are, however, a nuisance to have living around or inside your home your commercial property. Acrobat ants contaminate food and can strip insulation from around wires, causing short-circuits.

Why do I have an acrobat ant problem?

Acrobat ants are attracted to areas of moisture and are often found nesting outside in the damp soil near the foundation of buildings. While foraging for food or shelter, these ants often find their way inside houses. Utility lines, tree branches, and shrubs provide easy access to your home's exterior. Once there, they quickly find entry points in the foundation, in spaces around windows and doors, and in holes along the roofline.
